DUMPSTER DOCUMENTS: CONSUMER INVESTIGATION
News Channel 7 – Greer, South Carolina

July 12, 2010- This article addresses the issue of enforcing South Carolina’s laws regarding data protection, and the penalties associated with improperly disposing information. Enforcing the state’s Identity Theft Protection Act falls to the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, who argue that even one incident of improper data disposal is too many.  The Department’s staff attorney, Carri Grube-Lybarker, says, "The message is that you are taking in very personal information and that people trust you with this information that you would use it within the letter of the law and dispose of it.”
