July 16, 2010- Recently two separate incidents in the Barstow/Chino Hills area of Southern California highlighted a careless attitude toward medical records shared by too many businesses. In one incident, records from a dental office were placed outside of an office in Barstow. In another incident records from a husband and wife medical team were placed in the trash unshredded and exposed to the public. In the instance of the dental office, where the records had been exposed to the public for more than a month, the Sheriff’s Office became involved. The medical offices in question could face sanctions from the federal government, as well as fines of up to $25,000 from the State of California.
